Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Cultural norms play a significant role in shaping political behavior, governance structures, and the overall effectiveness of governmental systems. Pankshin LGA in Plateau State provides a rich case for examining how cultural norms influence governance in the context of a multi-ethnic and diverse society (Musa & Adamu, 2024). In Pankshin, various cultural practices, traditions, and ethnic identities intersect with political processes, affecting governance at the local level. These cultural norms, which include communal decision-making, gender roles, and patronage networks, have deep implications for how local leaders engage with constituents and manage public resources (Hassan & Aliyu, 2023). A limitation of the study is the potential difficulty in obtaining reliable data on sensitive cultural and political practices due to the social context and fear of political repercussions.
